Boot Camp (the New Yoga)

Yoga may be good for you but it's not quite masochistic enough for some fitness junkies. Boot Camp is the latest fitness trend to hit the parks, beaches and gyms of Sydney, complete with pack marches and punishments, meted out by ex-soldiers.
It may not feel particularly Zen, but after suffering through some early- morning sessions you may lose fat and increase muscular and cardio-vascular endurance, according to James Brabon, National Boot Camp Commander at Fitness First.
"The last few years the industry has moved towards gentle exercise programs that promote health and wellbeing rather than specific goal-orientated training," Brabon says. "We've gone in the complete opposite direction purely to get the results."
If you can't handle someone yelling at you just after sunrise, there is a less aggressive Boot Camp alternative, run by Lee Campbell in Paddington. Campbell's recruits progress from inner-city obstacle courses to treks in Tasmania, New Zealand and even New Guinea.
