IT might not be as much fun as a liberal dose of Viagra but good, clean exercise is being promoted around the State this week to get hearts a'pumping.
This week is Pump Heart Week, the Heart Foundation's annual effort to have blood belonging to people of all ages circulating more quickly than usual by way of a regular fitness regime.
Gyms throughout NSW are participating with special fitness classes and various other events.
Pump Heart Week was launched in Newcastle at Wests Fitness Centre at New Lambton's Wests Leagues Club.
A class of `mature movers' was on hand learning that regardless of age or ability, exercise was for everyone.
Centre manager Mr John Pirlo said mature mover classes were held three times a week and involved low-impact aerobics for people aged from 50 to 80.
He said the classes had been designed specifically for senior fitness enthusiasts because they increased the body's blood circulation without excess exertion.
Heart Foundation events coordinator Ms Jenny McCrae said yesterday that it was hoped Pump Heart Week would raise $60,000.
